I’ve discussed my love of music before. I’m obsessed with music as a whole, but sometimes, I get obsessed with certain songs in particular. Occasionally, songs will sit in my collection for years before I really listen to them and fall in love. I thought I’d share some of my latest musical obsessions with you, my people.
This is today’s song. Desmond Dekker made this song famous, but this is the previous version by Justin Hinds & The Dominoes, which I actually prefer. Sorry, Desmond.
This is the rocksteady version:
And the original Ska version of the same song:
I like both versions, but I lean towards the ska version. I have listened to both of these about a half a million times today.
And before Justin Hinds, there was The Melodians, which is just about as close to the perfect Friday song as you can get.
I am in love with the Japanese band Boris. I want to marry them and have like a million of their babies. They rock and they rock hard. This is my favorite song off of their new album.
A friend of mine recently handed me Black Sleep Of Kali. This whole album is good, but this is the song I find myself listening to over and over again:
Cheeseburger is another band given to me by a friend. Hell, it might have even been the same friend. I can’t remember. How can you not love the lyric, “I told you I felt funny and you said it must be love”? I absolutely adore this song, but all of Cheeboigie is fun:
I found out the singer for Orphan died soon after I discovered them, which made me sad, so I obsessively played this song. Awesome guitar sound here, and well, how can you go wrong with a song called Penis Farm?
In a complete turnabout from all of that above, I became obsessed with this song by Trampled By Turtles, a bluegrass band. I think it’s the banjo or the mandolin or the fiddle or maybe it’s all three. That’s a mighty fine pickin’ and a-singin’. Hoo boy:
Keith Morris from The Circle Jerks started a new awesome band called OFF!:
Then Red Fang came out with a new album (this video is great):
I went on a little Michigan bender (my home state) and became absolutely obsessed with this song by Grand Funk Railroad. It’s worth listening to the whole 9+ minutes:
And that pretty much catches us up with the songs that I’ve been obsessed with over the last couple of months (I think) and I didn’t even touch on hip hop or metal or classical. I told you I have pretty diverse taste in music, but you didn’t believe me. Enjoy!
