Elimination Round

List 5 of your top dating deal breakers.

deal

Oh, great. Here were go with the dating questions again. I don’t really “date” so most of this is irrelevant. These are just general qualities that annoy me in all people.

No Sense of Humor
If you have don’t have one, sorry, but I don’t want to know you. A sense of humor is an essential part of making your way through life without killing other people or cracking up. You must make me laugh within the first couple of hours of knowing you, otherwise, I’ll fib and say it was nice to meet you, and walk away.

Broken Promises
I’ve already written about this in 10 Things I Hate Part 4, so I’ll just cut and paste from there.

Promises are how humans show loyalty. They are what separate us from the rest of the animal kingdom. So, when you make a promise, keep it. If you don’t think you can absolutely keep your promise, barring any unforeseen circumstances like getting hit by a bus, don’t make one. It’s very simple.

Liars
Ugh. Liars. I have a cousin who is a compulsive liar. She will spin great falsehoods about flying around the world in a hot air balloon or that time she saved a whole platoon in ‘Nam even though she wasn’t born yet. She is so convinced by her own lies that she doesn’t even realize they’re not true. She thoroughly persuades herself that they are. It’s annoying.

Idiots
I’m not a fan. I’m not saying I’m the sharpest tool in the shed, but you have to at least be able to keep up with conversation. I like to use a lot of random words as I wrote about the other day in The Wonderful World of English. It’s quite alright if you don’t know what they all mean and asking is perfectly acceptable, but if I feel like I have to dumb myself down, then it’s a no go.

Idealogues
This falls under the general heading of “idiots”, but it bears repeating. I’ve already written about this one, too, in 10 Things I Hate so here’s another copy/paste.

If you’ve thought through a certain system, policy or creed, and happen to agree down the line, then good for you. But I’m talking about people who blindly follow an ideology or dogma. It doesn’t matter whether I happen to agree with a stance on a particular subject, anyone who uncompromisingly tows a religious, philosophical or party line without thinking for themselves, really needs to start thinking.
