NaBloPoMo: The Post-Mortem Post

I survived my third year of National Blog Posting Month as a Tiny Pepper. Did you?

For the past three years, I’ve posted every day in November. That’s quite an accomplishment since I am hardly a daily blogger. Sometimes, I’m not even a weekly blogger. Typically, I don’t worry about post counts or how long since my last one. I post when I have something to say.

In March of this year, I only had six things to say. Though, that was the month my boyfriend died, in other words, the month of suck and the six things were “THIS SUCKS.”

I knew I would have little time to post this November, so I came up with a series, which made things considerably easier. I didn’t have to think about what to write. I just wrote the next post in the series.

The plan was to write 30 stories about 30 albums. It sounds simple enough, until you realize that I’m old and I have a lot of stories to tell. The list kept changing. Even as I had posts scheduled, I changed them. One week, I added a post that wasn’t on the list at all to the middle of the week. I had to reschedule the posts after it for a day later.

Towards the end, I was so drained that I only wanted to talk about positive things. I dropped anything that had to do with Male dying or any other negative thing.

Here are some albums that were on the list at one point, but got cut:

  • Toxic Narcotic
  • Swagger 2000
  • Exile On Coldharbor Lane 1997
  • Skins & Pins
  • Blood For Blood Revenge On Society 1998
  • Dropkick Murphys The Gang’s All Here 1998
  • Welcome to Sky Valley 1994
  • The Dickies
  • The Selecter
  • Greydon Square 2013
  • Out Of Step 1983
  • Soundgarden Louder Than Love 1989
  • Dozer Call It Conspiracy
  • Toots & The Maytals
  • Fairytale Of New York
  • Billy Bragg Talking With The Taxman About Poetry 1986
  • Mike Ness Cheating At Solitaire 1999
  • London Calling 1979

I wrote my posts on the weekend and scheduled them. I have no idea how I managed to write seven freakin’ posts every weekend, when I normally have difficulty writing one or two.

I didn’t think my theme through all that well, since a lot of the posts I wrote were incredibly hard to write. Particularly this one, where I had to listen to domestic violence monster’s favorite album, which I had been actively avoiding for over a decade. It caused me to have a panic attack.Screen shot 2015-12-01 at 1.58.31 PM

It didn’t occur to me just how much I’d have to reveal about myself when writing this series. Now, that’s not to say that I have a problem revealing myself here. I’ve talked about some very delicate subjects and y’all know more about all the intricate details of my life than a lot of the people I know in the real world. I don’t typically go talking about drug addiction, depression or homelessness to strangers in real life, though I do that a lot here.

Writing posts chronologically was also unexpectedly really hard. I had to wade through each chapter to get to the next. Normally, when I talk about difficult subject matter, I do it when I feel like talking about it, not because it’s fucking November and I have to post something now.

Still, it was an adventure, even if it was one I didn’t always want to go on. I will say this though: having a theme made it so much easier than not having a theme like I did for the two years previous.

P.S. Though we had two Blog Hop Stories at the beginning of the month, I have no idea what happened to it at the end. After having to remind half a dozen people that they were tagged (which I absolutely hated doing), I lost track of it. 😦

P.P.S. Whether I post six or thirty times per month, I still can’t type for shit.
