10 Bands You’ve Probably Never Heard: The Letter E

I have a very large, diverse music collection. This is the series where I share with you some great bands that should be more famous. This post contains bands that start with the letter E (according to my iTunes).

Earth

This band makes excellent background music. Slow, instrumental and perfect for just zoning out.

Origin: Olympia, Washington
Genre:
Drone metal, experimental rock, post-rock, minimalist
Years active: 1989–1997, 2003–present

Earthless

Instrumental neo-psychedelica that’s just awesome. Nice little riffs with a spacey feel and a garage band/DIY quality about it that’s less annoying and more organic.

Origin: San Diego, California
Genre:
psychedelic rock, instrumental rock
Years active: 2001—present

El Gran Silencio

The Big Silence is anything but silent. These guys make you want to shake your money-maker. Plus, they have a brass section and an accordion! I wish I could roll my Rs.

Origin: Monterrey, Mexico
Genre:
cumbia, Mexican cumbia, Latin rap
Years active: 1993–present

Electric Moon

More neo-psychedelica with a darker, sparser flavor and more of a stoner rock feel. They’re mostly a duo with various guest drummers.

Origin: Germany
Genre:
acid rock, psychedelic rock, space rock, stoner rock
Years active: 2009 – present

Electric Wizard

Electric Wizard, or as my friend and I call them for some reason, Erectahizzle Wizzlefizzle, Erecto Wizzlefuss, Electry Wizzlepoo or any other variation thereof, is one of my favorite bands. Heavy as balls, fuzzed out, bass heavy, riffy awesomeness. Plus, they have a female guitarist. Hard to pick just one track, but this is one of my favorites. All their records are great. I love listening to EW while driving.

Origin: Dorset, England
Genre:
Doom metal, sludge metal, stoner metal
Years Active: 1993-Present

Emancipator

It’s hard to find good trip-hop. A lot of it ends up sounding like watered-down electronica. Emancipator is just full of sound, especially considering it’s basically one dude making it all. Plus, he uses strings and I’m a total sucker for strings.

Origin: Portland, Oregon
Genre:
  trip-hop, electronica, downtempo
Years Active: 1996-Present

End Of Level Boss

I don’t remember how I found these guys, but I’m glad I did. Their music has been described as “Kyuss jamming with Voivod, with Chris Cornell laying down the vocals.” How can you not love that?

Origin: UK
Genre:
progressive metal, progressive rock, stoner rock, stoner metal
Years Active: 2003-Present

Esmerine

Beautiful post rock music. Just beautiful. This is the new classical right here. They make me wish I knew how to play cello.

Origin: Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Genre:
Chamber music, post-rock, indie rock, folk
Years Active: 2003–present

Excision

From chamber music to dub step; I love my music collection. Strangely, Esmerine and Excision have more in common than just Canada, since from a synesthete’s perspective, they’re both incredibly interesting to watch.

Origin: Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada
Genre:
dubstep
Years Active: 2003–present

Explosions In the Sky

Explosions in the Sky is one of my top 10 favorite post rock bands. They make elaborately simple soundscapes, if that makes any sense. It’s very easy to get lost in their music.

Origin: Austin, Texas
Genres:
post rock
Years Active: 1999–present
