Synesthetic Soundtrack

I have synesthesia. I see music as color, shapes, patterns and movement in three dimensional space. Cool, eh? Well, as part of my nifty synesthesia, I wake up with a soundtrack every morning.

Actually, I don’t know for sure that it’s part of synesthesia. I don’t think anyone does, since so little is really known about it. It could just be my peculiar brain, but since it’s music, I’m going to go with synesthesia as the culprit for my morning earworms.

Obviously, they’re songs I’m familiar with, otherwise I wouldn’t be waking up with a soundtrack; I’d be composing music. They’re usually songs in my own collection, but sometimes, I haven’t heard them in twenty years or more. And, before you ask, no, I don’t listen to music while I sleep and my alarm clocks are buzzers, not radio.

For whatever reason, I wake up with a song stuck in my head every morning. This week, I decided to write them down. I’m not sure that this will be interesting to anyone, but without further ado, here are the songs I woke up to this week:

Monday

The Ramones: Sheena Is A Punk Rocker

I love the Ramones and this was actually a good song to wake up singing.

Tuesday

The Misfits: Green Hell

This one was fun, since like most Misfits songs, I have no idea what the words are, so I just found myself shouting GREEN HELL as I was getting ready.

Wednesday

G. F. Handel: Music For The Royal Fireworks: Menuet II

Sometimes, I hate waking up with classical stuck in my head because it’s hard to figure out what it is and who wrote it. You can’t just look up the lyrics. This one was fairly easy since it so auspicious, and therefore so Handel. Although, originally, I thought it could have been Bach.

Thursday

Frank Sinatra: Fly Me To The Moon

I adore Frank and this is one of my favorite songs by him. I would also like to see what life is like on Jupiter or Mars. Not a bad way to start the day.

Friday

Prince Buster: Enjoy Yourself

Enjoy yourself; it’s later than you think. Hells yes.

Honestly, this week was pretty good as far as songs go. At least I didn’t rickroll myself. If I continue this, you’ll see just how bad it can get.
