Skills to Pay The Bills
Daily Post Prompt: If you could choose to be a master (or mistress) of any skill in the world, which skill would you pick?
There are many skills I would like. I wish I was more athletically inclined. I took martial arts as a kid, but I never finished anything. I’d like to be a kung fu master. Not only because of their physical abilities, but because those dudes are so zen. They never let anything or anyone bother them and they only fight for what is right (at least in the movies). I could totally be Gordon Liu:
I would love to be a polyglot. To be able to easily learn languages would certainly come in handy. I could work for the United Nations or rich world travelers. I would love to be able to read books in their original languages. I always feel like I’m missing something in translation. It would be nice to have a Hitchhiker’s Guide babelfish that translates everything:
I would like to be a master of mathematics. As it is, English comes easily to me, which I suppose is a good skill to have, but math might as well be a foreign language. I’ve never come close to understanding it really. To me, this:
Looks about as easy to understand as this:
If only I were better at math, I might have pursued a career in science. I would love to be a cosmologist, astrophysicist or research scientist. How amazing would it be to have these guys as coworkers?

To have no need for the babel fish because we know every language (or could quickly pick it up) would be awesome! I too feel like something is missing when reading a translated story. I wish I’d thought to add those to my list of things I’d want to master. Oh, and the kung-fu master too, partially because “they are so zen,” but mostly because I want to be able to say, “I know Kung-fu.”
Kung Fu Master would certainly be nice to have on a resume.
Would we put that at the top in the Skills section or at the bottom in the Other Activities, Awards, Recognitions section? Hit them over the head with it up top? Or have it laying in wait, all secret like, to pounce unsuspecting at the end?
Oh, I’d be all subtle about it.
“Other Interests: reading, music, theatre, 36th Level Kung Fu Mastery, fishing.”
LOL. It’s that 36th Level bit that’s the most important.

I like better Stephen than Carl, I would band with Stephen and bully Carl.
Reading book in the language they were written and translated is like reading 2 different books.
I kind of prefer Stephen, too.
I bet. I would like the experience someday of reading a book in another language.
